A BILL OF ASSERTIVE RIGHTS

Assertiveness is -
  • Getting what you want without hurting others.
  • Being rational and open.
  • Protecting your values and self worth respectively.
  • Knowing when to assert and when to give up gracefully

Assertive rights -

  • You have the rights to judge your own behaviour, thoughts and emotion, and to take the responsibility for their initation and consequences upon yourself.
  • You have the right to offer no reasons or excuses for justifying you behaviour.
  • You have the right to change.
  • You have the right to judge if you are responsible for finding solutions to other people’s problem.
  • You have the right to make mistake - and be responsible for them
  • You have the right to say, “ I don’t know ”.
  • You have the right to be independent of the goodwill of others before coping with them.
  • You have the right to be illogical in making decisions.
  • You have the right to say , “I don’t understand”.
  • You have the right to say , “I don’t care”.
  • You have the right to say “no”, without feeling guilty.

Result of negative feelings -

  • About self - Anxiety, fear, stress.
  • About others - Anger.
  • About life - Depression, frustration
